Seedance 2.5 is ByteDance's update to Seedance 2.0, launched on 31 July 2026. It doubles a single shot from 15 to 30 seconds. In AIGE it also takes up to 50 reference files, against 12 on 2.0, runs at 480p or 720p, and costs 232 credits for 5 seconds at 720p.
What ByteDance says changed in 2.5
This list comes from ByteDance's launch post of 31 July 2026 and BytePlus's post of 6 August 2026, both read on 27 October 2026. The quality claims are ByteDance's own words, not a test of ours.
Length. Up to 30 seconds in a single pass, up from 15 in Seedance 2.0, with support for extending a clip over several rounds.
Continuity. Better shot transitions and scene changes inside longer videos, plus gains in image, audio and motion quality.
References. Many more reference files in one pass, with stronger clay render, motion and creative references. BytePlus puts the total at up to 50 per clip.
Editing. Timestamp-level control for targeted edits of audio and video, and upgraded green screen, camera perspective and reference-based editing.
On launch day the model rolled out on Jimeng AI and Doubao Pro, with API access listed as coming soon. BytePlus opened it through its ModelArk platform on 6 August. ByteDance also lists what it still wants to improve, and what is Seedance covers those limits.
What changes in AIGE
AIGE runs both versions side by side in the video menu, so you can pick per shot. Here is what moves when you go from one to the other.
Setting | Seedance 2.0 | Seedance 2.5 |
|---|---|---|
Clip length | 4 to 15 seconds | 4 to 30 seconds |
Top size | 4K on the Pro tier, 720p on Fast | 720p |
Tiers | Pro and Fast | One tier |
Sound | A switch, no extra cost | A switch, no extra cost |
Reference files grow from 12 per clip to 50. How those split into images, clips and audio is in the table on what is Seedance, which also explains the inputs both versions accept.
The length range is whole seconds from 4 to 30, so a 17-second shot is a valid choice. The settings AIGE shows for 2.5 are size, length, the sound switch and reference files. The editing tools in ByteDance's post describe the model itself, and they are not a list of what AIGE exposes. The Seedance guide keeps the current version comparison.
What a Seedance 2.5 clip costs
Price grows with length and size. For comparison, the last two rows are Seedance 2.0 Pro at the same sizes.
Version and size | 5 s | 10 s | 15 s | 20 s | 30 s |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
2.5, 480p | 103 credits | 206 credits | 309 credits | 412 credits | 617 credits |
2.5, 720p | 232 credits | 463 credits | 694 credits | 925 credits | 1387 credits |
2.0 Pro, 480p | 68 credits | 135 credits | 202 credits | Stops at 15 s | Stops at 15 s |
2.0 Pro, 720p | 152 credits | 303 credits | 454 credits | Stops at 15 s | Stops at 15 s |
At every length they share, 2.5 costs more than 2.0 Pro at the same size. The extra reach is what you pay for. A full 30-second shot costs 1387 credits at 720p. The studio shows the exact cost beside Generate before you run, and the video cost page lines Seedance up against the other video models.
Is Seedance 2.5 free?
Not in AIGE. Every clip is paid for in credits, and on the plan list Seedance 2.5 sits on the Pro plan and above. The pricing page has the plans. Jimeng AI, Doubao Pro and BytePlus set their own prices and allowances, so check them directly. This article only covers AIGE.
When 2.0 is still the better pick
Stay on 2.0 Pro when you need 1080p or 4K, because 2.5 stops at 720p in AIGE. Stay on it for any shot of 15 seconds or less if cost matters, since it is the cheaper of the two at the same size. The cheapest way to try an idea first is covered in what is Seedance. If you want to start from a photo, the image to video page shows how.
Honest note: the gains described above are ByteDance's own account of its model. We ran no side-by-side test of 2.0 against 2.5, and AIGE exposes only size, length, sound and references from that list.
